Privacy notice

Who we are

NabuChess, part of NabuSuite, decides how your personal data is used on nabuchess.com. Write to privacy@nabuchess.com about anything in this notice.

What we collect

Account details: your name, email address, country (if you give it), chess level and your choice of theme.

Learning activity: puzzle attempts and ratings, lesson progress, homework answers and results, games you play here, class attendance, chat messages and reactions in classes, and messages to your coach.

Linked accounts: the Lichess or Chess.com username you add, and the public games and ratings those sites publish for it.

Coach material: lessons, notes about students, homework and uploaded videos.

Billing: your plan, trial dates and payment status. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.

Technical data: sign-in times, basic request logs kept for security, and the settings your browser stores locally (for example your theme and downloaded videos).

What we use it for

To run the service you signed up for: classes, homework, puzzles, lessons, progress and billing.

To show your coach the activity you allow them to see. You choose that per coach in My coaches (puzzles, games, homework, lessons, linked accounts).

If you use the AI coach, to send a summary of your activity to Anthropic so it can write your plan and answer your questions. Anthropic processes it on our behalf and doesn't use it to train models.

To keep the service secure and to fix problems. We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.

Who else handles it

Google Firebase (sign-in), Stripe (payments), Anthropic (AI coach, only if you use it), Cloudflare (video storage, class audio and video) and our hosting provider. Each acts on our instructions under a data processing agreement.

When you ask for a cloud evaluation, your browser sends the board position (not your identity) to Lichess.

Your coach sees your name and the activity you share with them. Classmates see your name, your avatar, your board during challenges and your place on class leaderboards.

Video and audio in classes

Classes are live and are not recorded. Audio and video are relayed only while the class is running.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account we remove your personal data within 30 days, apart from billing records we must keep for tax law. Backups roll off within a further 30 days.

Your rights

You can see, correct, get a copy of or delete your data, object to how we use it, and withdraw consent you gave. You can change your profile in Settings; for anything else write to privacy@nabuchess.com and we answer within a month.

If you are unhappy with how we handled your data you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Students under 16 need a parent or guardian's permission to use NabuChess. A parent or guardian can ask us at privacy@nabuchess.com to see or delete a child's data.

Cookies

We use only what the app needs to work: your sign-in session and a few settings stored in your browser. No advertising or tracking cookies.

Changes

When we change this notice in a way that matters, we tell you by email or in the app before it applies.
